My favorite apps for Linux
Introduction
For many years, I’ve thought of switching to Linux, since the annoyance with Windows always has been present. Last year i finally did it since the ecosystem seems to have matured enough (Thanks to both the FOSS developers, the rise of Rust, and Valves commitment to the Linux system)
Now i want to share the most useful apps I’ve found through this process of switching from Windows to Linux
This list might be a little controversial, since people who has used Linux for many years properly would say something like “just do this” or “Linux already has this feature just use the command line”, but i kind of like the WYSIWYG systems. I like user interfaces.
Linux Mint
It should be said that i run Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu. I’ve tried some different distros in my search for the most straightforward switch from windows to Linux, and I’ve settled on Linux mint, since it feels like the closest and most user friendly distro right now.
The List
Heres the list of my recommendations. It will be updated when i find new usefull software.
1. AppManager
When starting with Linux, i found it quite confusing when installing applications. There seems to be several different ways of installing the same applications. But i’ve found that App Images works the best, but it did not seem easy to acutally install the app images for different applications.
This is where AppManager comes in. It works as a middle man, and makes installing App Images as easy as installing applications on OSX. Drag and drop. Easy. It also provides a list of installed applications.
10/10
2. Mission Center
I have to admit, one of the greates features of windows is its Task Manager. It makes it easy to see the usage of the system, and force close applications which are stuck. So i went looking for a Linux alternative where i found Mission Center. It’s almost a 1-1 version of Task manager, written in Rust, and extremely easy to use.
